The only limit is your imagination.

This year of study aims to further equip graduates of our Concept Art Higher Certificate with industry-specific skills, tools and software expertise that will not only speed up workflows, but will add depth and refinement to their portfolios. Students will be encouraged to specialise within a field of film, game or animation, and will have briefs catered towards that specialisation.

Here we aim to level-up all the foundational skills in the fundamentals of perspective, drawing, anatomy and digital painting established in first year, with the ultimate goal of leveraging these skills in design processes. This will help students strengthen the appeal of their character, creature, asset and environment designs, in a targeted, industry-directed fashion.

What will you learn?

Concept art is a form of illustration commonly used in the film, video game and animation industries to create the first visualisations of ideas before they are put into production. This might be 3D modelling for games, the creation of physical props, costumes or sets in film, or the final art created for animation.

At the end of the year, students will get to develop their own campaign for their final project and assemble an industry-ready portfolio showcasing their unique talents. By this point students will be able to leverage all the skills gained from their second year of study and improve from their previous years’ campaign design assignment.

During this programme, we’ll advance your skills in the areas of character, creature, asset and environment design through the incorporation of advanced 3D workflows, dedicated theory weeks, extensive IP-creation and world building, and a diverse range of industry-specific assignments
