Understand your users, design better products
Great design starts with understanding people — their goals, frustrations, behaviours, and mental models. User research gives you the tools to gather that understanding systematically and translate it into design decisions that actually work. In this course you'll build core research skills including planning a research project, conducting user interviews and contextual enquiries, writing effective surveys, and running card sorting sessions to understand information architecture. In Week 2 you'll learn to synthesise your research into personas, empathy maps, user journey maps, and scenario documentation, working with the digital tools that modern research teams use daily. You'll leave with a Certificate of Completion from the Academy of Digital Arts and a research project demonstrating your ability to gather and apply user insights.
What you'll learn

- Research planning: defining objectives and choosing methods
- Conducting interviews and contextual enquiries
- Writing effective surveys and usability questionnaires
- Card sorting and information architecture
- Creating personas and empathy maps
- Journey mapping and scenario development
- Tools: Google Forms, Maze, Zoom, Miro, Airtable
How it works
The course runs Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 pm to 8 pm. On Tuesdays there will be a check-in session with the lecturer.
Over the runtime of the course you will learn everything from scratch while being instructed by a lecturer.
After the course is finished you will receive a Certificate of Completion.
You will have your project work as part of your portfolio.
